TONÁ
This beautiful piece of Andalusian folklore inquires into transience, death and memory; because dancing death is the best way to celebrate life, an individual and collective catharsis.
TONÁ came about from the need to embody a broad identity, which does not set out to define itself essentially, linked organically to the collective memory and popular imaginaries, with all their potential for conflict. Poetry that transmits flesh, the vital pulse, full of rage and joy, and of prejudice and superstition. An ancient and fertile grief that constructs us slowly, from childhood.
Luz Arcas founded the company La Phármaco in 2009. Its creations include Kaspar Hauser. El huérfano de Europa, Miserere and the new project Bekristen/Cristianos, a trilogy whose second chapter, Somos la Guerra, premiered in autumn 2021. Its repertoire has toured in different countries, accompanied by teaching projects all over the world, and this earned it the 2015 El Ojo Crítico Prize for Dance, the 2015 prize for Best Female Dance Performer at the Lorca Awards, Runner-up for Best Female Dance Performer at the 2017 Max Awards, the 2009 Injuve Award and the 2009 Málaga Crea Award.
