Contemporary dance, theatre and original salt drawings from southern India accompany two dancers, two friends who meet in a playroom.
Natanam, the name of this show, means “dance” in Sanskrit. Two characters dance in a playroom covered in sand, and in the sand, use salt to make geometric drawings from southern India, called Kolam, which are traced at the entrances to homes and are soon swept away. The show won the 2021 Feten award for its work in introducing young children to dance, unique award given to this artistic discipline.
For over twenty years, DA.TE Danza has been creating, producing and putting on contemporary dance, dance/theatre and theatre performances for children and young people, from early childhood to adolescence. With 25 shows premièred and over 2,500 performances, it’s one of the longest-running dance companies in Andalusia, and has become a well-established project. It’s committed to work in which the message is more important than the aesthetics, creating shows that engage with today's society, offering children, young people and families a story to reflect on. Dramaturgy is the key theme that accompanies the audience and tells stories with a message, and which hadn’t until now been told to children.
