LA GIOCONDA, by Amilcare Ponchielli
In 17th-century Venice, a prince who has returned from exile loves the wife of the Inquisitor Alvise, to the despair of Gioconda, a street singer in love with the nobleman. Gioconda suffers not only her lover’s indifference, but also the lustful advances of Barnaba, a spy of the Inquisition who uses the most perverse stratagems to possess the young woman.
This is the starting point for a drama of love and heartbreak, of crimes, brimming over with passion. A grand opera with a spectacular stage setting... which will reveal some of its secrets to the audience of Dansa Metropolitana, who, on 20 and 21 March, will be able to attend the rehearsals of the corps de ballet in the theatre foyer, and the dress rehearsal of the opera.
