Double You
Five versatile artists offer us a unique experience: two simultaneous performances of circus disciplines, acro dance, parkour, Chinese pole and handbalancing, in two different spaces.
This singular production reflects on the fears we have of missing out on things in life. It is a social experiment that combines circus with acro dance, parkour, Chinese pole and handbalancing. The audience, split into two groups of 100 people, only sees the performance given on their side of the curtain. Nevertheless, the shadows and the sounds travel from one side to the other. The two separate spaces gradually merge during the performance, turning into one large amphitheatre, and the two initial groups of spectators end up as a single audience.
Founded in 2017 by Thomas Decaesstecker and Ward Mortier, the Belgian company Be Flat was created with the wish to perform for everybody. The company’s goal is to get people of different origins together and to connect and inspire, sharing their creativity, through movement and sound. Their creations are notable for establishing a human connection between the performer and the spectator, allowing every spectator to enjoy their own freedom of interpretation, their own personal experience of performing. The recurring themes in Be Flat’s work are territoriality, mobility and the power of the group.
