Baile para voz y guitarra

Fernando Romero

It could be said that flamenco expresses itself best in its most genuine version. The flamenco a tres (flamenco trio) is the fundamental format, the one that points us from the knowledge of today back to the origin of the genre. It is simplicity: one who sings, one who plays and one who dances what he or she hears to make it his or her own. This is what the flamenco community call bailar el cante y el toque (dancing the singing and guitar playing).

Directed and danced by Fernando Romero, with the voice of Miguel Ortega and the guitar of Manuel Herrera, Baile para voz y guitarra is a meticulous example of that intense and naked flamenco. The show takes us through various palos (song forms) in the classical repertoire, which the performers pass through the filter of the present-day.

The aim of the El Dorado cultural association is to establish a permanent space for increasing the appreciation of the art of flamenco in Barcelona. Concerts, talks, films, exhibitions and courses are just some of the activities it organises in order to raise awareness of the past and present of flamenco in the city.

Fernando Romero was an assistant director, choreographer, flamenco teacher and guest artist of the Ballet Nacional de España between 2004 and 2009. He was also an assistant choreographer, rehearsal director, solo balaor (flamenco dancer) and choreographer of the Compañía de Danza Andaluza between 1996 and 1998.

He has danced and choreographed in the Cristina Hoyos, María Pagés, Paco Peña, Isabel Bayón and Alícia Márquez companies as well as with other dance corps, and in numerous international productions and events, notably at the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, the Gran Teatro in Cordoba, the Washington National Opera, the Blue Note in Tokyo and the Bolshoi Theatre.
