El Baile de la Zurda, LaCerda

Inspired by dance marathons and Latin American rhythms, LaCerda seeks to explore the vital impulse driving any body dancing to the rhythm of music and investigate the nature of dance as both movement and a space for festive gathering and a paradigm of collectivity. El Baile de la Zurda is a tribute to dance, to the desire to live through dancing despite everything. It is also a tribute also to its creators’ Latin American roots, the source of their passion for dance.

LaCerda is a contemporary dance company founded in 2013 with the aim of artistically exploring the concept of ritual and the mysteries it entails. Since 2019, three Latin American artists have been in charge of the artistic direction: Edward Tamayo Ruiz, Johann Pérez Viera and Valentina Azzati. In 2021, Aina Lanas joined the team as a performer, and Júlia Vernet took on the roles of production and conceptualisation.

OUTSKRTS, Souldiers

OUTSKRTS is a dance piece for seven performers created as part of the Dansa Metropolitana 2024 Artèries project, which explores the different relationships between society and individuals. Through a hybrid language combining various elements of urban dance styles such as breaking, hip-hop, and popping, as well as other contemporary dance techniques, OUTSKRTS presents a journey from individualism to collectivity. This journey spans the various processes between paradigms such as resistance, manipulation, and the need to fit in.

Since 2014, Souldiers has made a name for itself on the urban dance scene, earning numerous awards and honours in the competitive circuit, becoming champions of Spain six times in various categories and winning the World of Dance Spain international competition four times.  Under the guidance of choreographer and dancer Julia Romero and Soul Headquarters director David Castejón, also a dancer and choreographer, this piece is their foray into other formats and circuits.

AM I WHAT?, Elvi Balboa

AM I WHAT? explores the desire to be seen and the consumption of bodies in a competitive world. The piece addresses how people move, desire, and compete for attention in a society that threatens to devour individuality. Amidst the sweat and movement of the crowd, egos emerge. This choreography is a celebration of human uniqueness and a reflection on the dynamics between the individual and the collective.

Elvi Balboa creates artistic proposals for unique public spaces, exploring their spatial, historical, and poetic dimensions. Trained as a dancer and choreographer at the Institut del Teatre, Balboa has collaborated with companies such as Ex-Nihilo and has developed her own language in personal projects. Her first piece as a director, AM I WHAT?, was nominated for Best Street Performance at the Pad Awards. Her latest piece, ANÖA, co-produced by the Centro Coreográfico Galego, will be presented in Barcelona in a site-specific performance at the Sala Apolo.
