Elisabeth gets her way
The Belgian choreographer performs this solo which delves into the universe of one of the most important harpsichordists in the world, Elisabeth Chojnacka, who contributed to the renaissance of this instrument.
Show programmed by Mercat de les Flors.
Jan Martens delves into the universe of one of the most important harpsichordists in the world, Elisabeth Chojnacka, who died in 2017. This piece is a danced portrait with a selection of the music that Chojnacka recorded during her 50-year career, from Nyman to Montague and Ligeti, all played by her. The goal is that the dance should remain faithful to often-complex scores, so Martens “plays” his body in the same way that Chojnacka plays the harpsichord.
The Belgian choreographer and dancer Jan Martens believes that every body has something to say. With each new piece he tries to redraw the relationship between the audience and the performer. Martens is an associate artist of deSingel in Antwerp (Belgium) and he has his own production company and choreographic platform GRIP, founded together with the manager Klaartje Oerlemans.
