The great metropolises of our time generate inequality. Many people who live in them suffer discrimination because of their ethnic origin or because they are members of a minority group. This narrative presents a choreography that celebrates the lifestyle of the rural world, where communities help each other and share resources. Perhaps in this way, the city of others would become, in the end, the city of everyone.
Rafael Palacios, a choreographer born in Medellín, created the company Sankofa Danzafro in 1997. The word "sankofa" means "to return to the roots" and refers to a way of looking at life that invites us to learn about the past in order to understand the present and build the future with firm steps. Palacios recreates tradition and contemporaneity in choreographies and stagings that speak of Afro-descendant culture and that have made the company a leader in Colombia, South America and other parts of the world.
