Mariana

Mariana is a tribute to the female body as the driving force behind labour throughout history: the gypsy's goat, the farmer's mule, the donkey that carries burdens or bears the god. This piece explores the productive power of the body, driven by flamenco song and rhythm, overflowing with energy while blending life and death. Devoid of nostalgia or past influences, Mariana discovers its voice through visceral and contemporary movement.

Luz Arcas, dancer, choreographer, and stage director, founded La Phármaco in 2009. Her latest projects include Bekristen/Tríptico de la prosperidad (2019-2023) and Ciclo de los milagros (2020-2022), with notable co-productions in Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona.Mariana, the third piece of the cycle was presented at the Seville Flamenco Biennial and acknowledges Arcas' career, having recently been awarded the 2024 National Dance Prize for Creation.
