The Royal Ballet
The Capulets and the Montagues are bitter enemies. However, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love at first sight at the Capulet ball, where Romeo has sneaked in. The young couple express their mutual devotion from Juliet’s balcony and secretly marry. The couple’s troubles increase when Romeo is banished from Verona after avenging the death of his friend Mercutio, who was killed by Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin. Meanwhile, Juliet’s parents want to force her to marry another suitor. If they want to be together, Romeo and Juliet will have to sacrifice everything.
The ballet of London’s Royal Opera House has an extensive repertoire of 19th-century classics, and combines tradition and innovation in performances of global classics at its Covent Garden home. In this case, Romeo and Juliet was produced under the choreographic direction of Kenneth MacMillan, resident choreographer Wayne McGregor, and associate artist Christopher Wheeldon.
