Y perdí mi centro (And I lost my centre)
An experimental musical and performance project that proposes a journey through space to investigate, through the body, music and flamenco, gender roles and creation as a way of life.
“Fui piedra y perdí mi centro
Y me arrojaron al mar
Al cabo de mucho tiempo
Mi centro vine a encontrar”
Fui Piedra

Y perdí mi centro (2020) is the new show by LaboratoriA. After their first creation Una mujer fue la causa (2018), this experimental musical and performance project now proposes a journey through space to investigate gender roles and creation as a way of life. Four beings on the stage wonder, through their bodies, music and flamenco, what it is to be a woman. It is as if for a moment they were getting ahead of the course of history and were already gazing on reality from another plane, future or extra-terrestrial. In the beginning, unclassifiable, with costumes that erase all trace of femininity and a minimalist set design, the artists begin a galactic voyage singing and dancing to their own essence. They do so through the classic moves of flamenco. A language that they use to cast doubt on the binary or the oppression of women in the world of art. They will do so by recovering the ancestral power of that style of music, always associated with the land and the power of the community. As well as standing up for the time of woman and of creation in a world threatened by haste and productivity. With this journey through soleá, serrana, caña or farruca a renewed opportunity is offered for women to choose how to live and to express their femininity. Something that is only possible if we give ourselves the necessary space-time to make the return journey. Because life is like that, movement towards the centre of oneself.
LaboratoriA are Aina Núñez, Isabelle Laudenbach, Cristina López and Ana Brenes. The group was formed in 2017 and presented their first show, Una mujer fue la causa (2018), which it has been possible to see in more than 25 venues, like the Festival Sona Flamenc (Tarragona), the Ciclo de La Raíz (Zaragoza), El Dorado Sociedad Flamenca Barcelonesa, the circuit Barcelona Districte Cultural, or Mimos Kultur Center (Zurich). In July 2020 they presented Y perdí mi centro at the Festival de Música i Dansa in Granada, with the preview in Catalonia in October at L’Atlàntida Centre d’Arts Escèniques d’Osona and the premiere at the 23rd Fira de la Mediterrània. The presentation in Barcelona took place at the Festival Ciutat Flamenco. Y perdí mi centro was selected for the Diputación de Granada’s Artes en Vivo circuit 2020, in the category of avant-garde flamenco, and it received the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Culture.
