Part of the Art Factories Programme set up by Barcelona City Council, La Seca aims to constitute a centre of excellence for existing and future artists. It provides a space for meeting others, for showing work and for sharing experiences; a place for cross-boundary creativity and for dialogue in the realm of contemporary thinking; a platform for generating opportunities unavailable to these professionals in other institutions or organisations.

La Seca works to achieve a number of aims: it invests considerable effort in developing a permanent programme focusing on the creation, production and presentation of performing arts and visual arts shows and of new works for the theatre; it fosters a new look at the European Avant-garde movements of the 20th century (Dadaism, Futurism, Surrealism, etc.); it encourages debate and reflection that makes it possible to generate synergies in the field of culture; and it promotes interdisciplinary creation in the realm of the performing and paratheatre arts.
