The Teatre Zorrilla opened on 31 October 1868. The building is based on the model of the Baroque Italian theatre with a horseshoe-shaped auditorium and also reflects the Romantic theatres of the 19th century in its Rococo ornamentation.

Great actors and actresses such as Enric Borràs and Margarida Xirgu frequently appeared on the stage here. In 1905, the Zorrilla was converted into a cinema, with films alternating with theatre shows. In 1970, it closed its doors.

Badalona City Council refurbished the premises, which reopened on 21 January 1999. It is currently home to the Centre d'Arts Escèniques de Badalona.
