
Dansa Metropolitana closes out an eighth edition that brought vibration to over 62,000 people
Dansa Metropolitana is concluding its busy 2025 edition, which featured performances in Badalona, Barcelona, Cornellà, El Prat, Esplugues, Granollers, L’Hospitalet, Sabadell, Sant Cugat, Santa Coloma, Terrassa and Viladecans. A wide range of dance styles for all audiences once again descended upon theatres, civic centres, streets and unconventional venues in these cities. The festival is continuing to establish itself as leading contemporary dance event by offering shows that captivate experts and the uninitiated alike.
This eighth edition of the festival featured 320 activities and 265 shows representing a wide range of artists, with 16 international, 11 Spanish and 76 Catalan pieces. The festival also offered 8 co-productions that reflect its continued interest in contributing to and supporting the local community (Adrián Vega & Adriano Galante’s Inaudit; Àngel Duran’s MONUMENT; Una bellissima giornata by Kernel Dance Theatre’s Una bellissima giornata; L’Esbord’s Folk as Queer, La Quebrá’s GLÒRIA: An Easy and Funny Work; WAN’sYou are not a ghost; Magdalena Garzón’s Altars profans; and Lali Ayguadé and Joan Ramon Graell’s Zitzània).
With a total of 62,667 audience members, the festival has reaffirmed its commitment to sharing dance and contemporary creation by offering a wide range of events in both conventional and unconventional venues. This year’s edition of Dansa Metropolitana has grown in almost all respects, with a 33% increase in total audience members compared to the previous edition and more events, more parallel activities and greater attendance at indoor shows.
A total of 28,300 people attended these indoor shows while the street performances and shows in unconventional venues, including the events in the Vibracions project, welcomed 13,600 attendees. Furthermore, the educational project, with school sessions and workshops, had 3,967 participants, and the film screenings attracted 750 people in cinemas and 15,100 via the Filmin platform. With 35 unconventional venues and 31 theatres involved, this edition reinforced the festival’s goal of bringing dance to new audiences and new settings.
The festival also embraced public engagement and education, with 22 shows featuring amateurs with 534 participants. Furthermore, 37 schools and courses with a total of 947 students participated, and 39 specific dance classes were taught. The workshops and parallel activities welcomed 950 people.
