Chorus (Part two of Díptico del Desierto)
This piece invites us, through dance, to take a journey between the mythological and the social, between the fantastic and the present day, between classical aesthetics and contemporary movement.
Chorus is inspired by Aeschylus’ tragedy The Suppliants, in which a group of women flee from their country in search of freedom, confronting together another band of humans that will have to decide their fate. Through the deconstruction of kathak dance the piece recovers an archaic trait of the tragedy: the chorus as the protagonist. A journey between the mythological and the social, between the fantastic and the present day, between classical aesthetics and contemporary movement.
Gaston Core is a stage manager, dramaturge, cultural manager, dancer and actor, and he has been the director of the Sala Hiroshima since 2015. In this piece he begins a special collaboration with the Shreyashee Nag Dance Company and Nupura Dance Center, with the objective of investigating the expressive essence of kathak dance.
*On Saturday 19 March, after the presentation of The Very Last Northern White Rhino in the Sant Ildefons Auditori, a meeting will be organized with the two performers of the Díptico del Desierto project, Shreyashee Nag and Oulouy.
