In his latest piece, this Argentinian creator explores the logic of theatre by focusing on gestures. Pablo Messiez presents his new work as "an attempt to see how theatre thinks, what it is made of, what its own logic is".
Topazia has inherited a circular room in which she wants to open a bar. Well, in reality she wants to act again, but it's easier to get people to a bar than to a theatre. So she will open the bar and set up a stage inside. It seems that Sergio helps her to put together a tribute to the Italian singer Mina. He directs the gestures. It also seems that there is a young pianist. And an old ballerina. It seems that they come from another time and that this time goes in leaps and bounds, flickering. It seems that something happens with the gestures. As if they also moved in leaps and bounds. Now nobody knows if they do what they do because they want to or if they just repeat what someone else has done before...
Pablo Messiez was born in Buenos Aires in 1974 and at the age of 12 he enrolled in his first acting workshop, which marked a life dedicated to theatre. He began his training in the performing arts in Argentina and, after directing a production in Buenos Aires, he ended up in Madrid, where he premièred his first play, Muda [Mute], which was followed by a series of productions of his own and other texts. Among the most recent creations, Antes [Before], Las palabras [Words], Las canciones [Songs] and, this past 2023, La voluntad de creer [The will to believe], almost all seen at the Teatre Lliure. At Dansa Metropolitana he presented Dance Corps
