We’d like you to come and dance with us at Tothom balla, a participatory initiative we are organising simultaneously in the various cities taking part in the Dansa Metropolitana and which will signal the start of a whole day packed with activities to round off this year's edition of the festival.
This year's choreography was devised by Germana Civera. Its distinctive feature is its repetition of the same step sequences and figures, set to the rhythm of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. A highly popular theme, intended as a tribute to the Cuban artist Alicia Alonso, a huge legend in ballet, noted for being blind, who died a few months ago. Every one walking together in a line, generating a channelled, powerful energy with a hypnotic effect. Rounded off with David Bowie's Let’s dance: a free inspiration from current creation, a very contemporary finale with the appearance of various choreographic languages as an expansion of the festival.
Come along to your city’s announced venue at 11 am, and learn this really easy choreography; and at 12 noon, everyone from the various festival cities will be dancing it at the same time.
Germana Civera is a dancer and choreography originally from Valencia, with a high-profile international career, who has always enjoyed a close relationship with Barcelona, where she carried out some of her studies and has collaborated with several of the country's main creators. She received the City of Barcelona Prize in 2008.
She currently resides and works in Montpellier, where she played a notable role at the National Choreographic Centre in the 1990s, and where she has been director of the Inesperada association since 2000, a platform for contemporary artistic experimentation, research and creation. Germana Civera is a resident research artist at ENSAM (École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Montpellier), where she is running and developing the Human Landscapes project for 2020-2024.
